About County Antrim Harriers

Who we are

County Antrim Harriers has been getting people running since 1895. Today we are a club of more than 100 runners of every age and ability, from people taking their first steps on our Couch to 5K programme to seasoned racers chasing personal bests.

What brings us together is simple: we enjoy running, and we enjoy it more in good company. Whether you want structured coaching, a friendly group to train with, or a team vest to race in, you'll find a place here.

The club is run entirely by volunteers: our committee, office bearers and coaches give their time so that members can get the most from their running. [Add affiliation, e.g. "We are affiliated to Athletics Northern Ireland."]

Our history

Founded in 1895, County Antrim Harriers has a long and proud place in Irish athletics. For more than 130 years, generations of Harriers have trained, raced and volunteered under the same colours.

Our story includes some remarkable athletes. In the 1920s, JP McCann earned his reputation as the club's "Mile Maestro". You can read more about him, and about the coaches who shaped the club, on our History page. [Add one or two highlights the committee would like to feature, e.g. a notable championship win or club milestone.]

Our crest and motto

Our crest draws on the heraldry of County Antrim. The Red Hand of Ulster sits between two white towers, above a red lion rampant on a gold field, all in the club's green and gold.

The motto beneath it, Ad Augusta Per Angusta, is Latin for "to great things through difficulties". Every runner knows that feeling. The hard miles are what get you to the finish line.

What we offer

  • Weekly coached sessions for all abilities, led by qualified club coaches. [Add days, times and meeting point.]
  • Couch to 5K, our beginners' programme for anyone starting from scratch.
  • The Mayfair Races, our own annual race event, organised and marshalled by club members.
  • Club race series and records, so members can track their progress and compete against each other.
  • Summer and winter running routes, mapped for members to use any time.
  • A friendly social side, with Member of the Month awards and plenty of post-run chat.

Running for others

Our members regularly run and fundraise for local and national charities. [Add the charities the club supports, recent totals raised, or upcoming charity events.]
